What Big D Expects of Our Members Beyond attendance of meetings and events, active involvement in the activities and responsibilities of the club through the member’s volunteer efforts. It is a goal of the Big D HRC to be the best hunting retriever club possible. This is only achieved through the efforts of each individual member of our club. Big D HRC has many opportunities where we need your help. Begin your membership in our club by volunteering to serve in one of the following areas:

  • Training days
  • Training grounds maintenance
  • Annual hunt tests
  • Quarterly technical programs
  • Parties and social events
  • Administration
  • Equipment inventory and maintenance
  • As a new member, your membership sponsor can provide you with specific information regarding these areas. Hunting Retriever Club/United Kennel Club and You Big D HRC was originally chartered as a member club of the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC) division of the United Kennel Club. Today, our club holds a dual charter with both UKC (HRC) and also the American Kennel Club (AKC). We sponsor club events under each organization. While national membership in HRC is not a prerequisite of joining Big D HRC, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity and join HRC national today. In return for your annual dues of $25 Single or $30 Family for HRC national membership, your benefits from HRC national will include:

  • Annual subscription to “Hunting Retriever” magazine that is published on a Bi-Monthly basis. The magazine offers the following
  • Breeders Corner
  • Training Tips
  • Summary of Hunt Tests (since the last magazine) and the dogs that have passed in those tests.
  • List of dogs that have received a title (since the last magazine). Your dog must be UKC registered to appear on this list.
  • Judges Corner
  • Qualified to receive points toward nationally recognized UKC hunting retriever titles (the dog must be UKC registered)
  • Reduced entry fees in UKC licensed hunt tests
  • Complimentary title certificates as your dog progresses through the stages of hunting retriever development
  • HRC Educational Scholarships – available to any full time student that is a family member of a HRC Member in good standing.
